Slow Cooker Swiss Steak Recipe

Certainly! Here’s a simple recipe for Slow Cooker Swiss Steak:

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds round steak, cut into serving-size pieces
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 bell peppers, sliced (any color you prefer)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 bay leaf

Instructions:

  1. In a shallow dish, combine flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  2. Dredge each piece of round steak in the flour mixture, shaking off excess.
  3. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat vegetable oil. Brown the steak pieces on both sides. This helps seal in the flavors and adds a nice color to the meat. Transfer the browned steak to the slow cooker.
  4. In the same skillet, add sliced onions, bell peppers, and minced garlic. Sauté for a few minutes until the vegetables are softened. Transfer the vegetables to the slow cooker.
  5. Pour diced tomatoes (with their juice) over the steak and vegetables in the slow cooker.
  6. In a bowl, mix beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, dried oregano, and bay leaf. Pour this mixture over the steak and vegetables in the slow cooker.
  7. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the steak is tender.
  8. Before serving, taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Remove the bay leaf.
  9. Serve the Swiss steak over rice, mashed potatoes, or noodles, and spoon the flavorful sauce over the top.
