Old Fashioned Sour Cream Pound Cake

Posted on January 15, 2024

Certainly! An Old-Fashioned Sour Cream Pound Cake is a classic recipe known for its rich and dense texture. Here’s a basic recipe for you to try:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 6 large eggs, room temperature
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sour cream, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease and flour a 10-inch tube or bundt pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. This may take about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the sour cream. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour and 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The exact baking time may vary, so start checking for doneness around 1 hour and adjust accordingly.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 15-20 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, you can dust the cake with powdered sugar or frost it with your favorite icing.

Enjoy your delicious Old-Fashioned Sour Cream Pound Cake!
