HOMEMADE ANGEL BISCUITS

Posted on January 18, 2024

Certainly! Angel biscuits are light and fluffy, a cross between a biscuit and a roll. Here’s a simple homemade recipe for you:

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (around 110°F or 43°C)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small cubes
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add the chilled butter cubes to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to incorporate the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk and yeast mixture. Stir until just combined. The dough will be soft and sticky.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Be careful not to over-knead.
  7. Roll the dough out to about 1/2-inch thickness. Using a round biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet, with the edges touching for soft sides.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
  9. Once baked, remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Enjoy your homemade angel biscuits! These are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a side with your favorite meals.
