Egg Roll in a Bowl is a popular and simplified version of traditional egg rolls, where the ingredients are stir-fried together in a bowl. It’s a low-carb and gluten-free alternative that captures the flavors of egg rolls without the need for a wrapper. Here’s a simple recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground pork or ground turkey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce or tamari (for a gluten-free option)
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha or your favorite hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 medium cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 1 carrot, julienned or shredded
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet or wok, heat sesame oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ground pork or turkey and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks.
  3. Once the meat is browned, add sliced onions, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Cook for a few minutes until the onions are softened.
  4. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce (or tamari), Sriracha, and rice vinegar. Pour the sauce over the meat and vegetables, stirring well to combine.
  5. Add the sliced cabbage and julienned carrot to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes or until the vegetables are tender but still have a bit of crunch.
  6. Stir in sliced green onions and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  7. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. You can add more soy sauce, Sriracha, or rice vinegar according to your taste preferences.
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired.
  9. Serve the Egg Roll in a Bowl on its own or over rice or cauliflower rice for a low-carb option.

Feel free to customize this recipe by adding other vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms, or bean sprouts. It’s a versatile and quick dish that’s perfect for a flavorful and satisfying meal.
