Stuffed cabbage rolls are a delicious and comforting dish enjoyed in many cuisines around the world. Here’s a simple recipe for making stuffed cabbage rolls:
Ingredients:
For the cabbage rolls:
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 lb ground meat (beef, pork, or a mix)
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the tomato sauce:
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage and place the whole head in the boiling water. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the outer leaves are pliable. Remove the cabbage from the water and let it cool slightly. Peel off the softened leaves and set them aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper. Mix well to form the stuffing mixture.
- Take a cabbage leaf and place a small amount of the stuffing mixture in the center. Roll the leaf around the filling, tucking in the sides as you go, to form a roll. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to create the tomato sauce.
- Place the cabbage rolls in a baking dish, seam side down. Pour the tomato sauce over the rolls, covering them evenly.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, or until the cabbage rolls are cooked through.
- Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
Enjoy your delicious stuffed cabbage rolls! You can serve them with a side of mashed potatoes or crusty bread for a complete and satisfying meal.
