Swedish Meatball Pasta Bake

Certainly! Here’s a simple recipe for Swedish Meatball Pasta Bake:

Ingredients:

For the meatballs:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 egg

For the pasta bake:

  • 8 oz pasta (penne or any preferred shape)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine all the meatball ingredients – ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, pepper, allspice, nutmeg, and egg. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  4. Form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
  5. In a large skillet, heat some oil over medium-high heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides, cooking them in batches if necessary. Once browned, transfer the meatballs to a plate and set aside.
  6. In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to create a roux. Cook for a couple of minutes until the flour is golden brown.
  7. Gradually whisk in the beef or vegetable broth and heavy cream, ensuring there are no lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens, stirring constantly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. In a large baking dish, combine the cooked pasta, meatballs, and the creamy sauce. Toss everything together to coat evenly.
  9. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the top.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the meatballs are cooked through.
  11. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
