Salted Caramel Cream Cheese Cupcakes Recipe

Ingredients:

For the cupcakes:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

For the cream cheese frosting:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp caramel sauce
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt (for sprinkling)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the cupcakes:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then mix in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the sour cream (or buttermilk). Start and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Stir in the caramel sauce until fully incorporated.
  7. Spoon the batter into the prepared cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 of the way full.
  8. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before frosting.

2. Make the cream cheese frosting:

  1. In a large bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar, 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and caramel sauce and beat until fully combined and smooth.
  4. If the frosting is too thick, you can add a teaspoon of milk to reach your desired consistency.

3. Assemble the cupcakes:

  1. Once the cupcakes are completely cooled, frost each one with a generous amount of cream cheese frosting.
  2. Drizzle caramel sauce over the frosting and sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt for that perfect salty-sweet balance.

4. Serve and enjoy!
