Jalapeño Cheddar Flatbread is a flavorful and slightly spicy bread that’s perfect as an appetizer, side dish, or even as a light meal. Here’s a simple recipe for making jalapeño cheddar flatbread:

Ingredients:

For the Dough:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1-2 jalapeño peppers, thinly sliced (seeds and ribs removed for less heat, if desired)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

For the Dough:

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix the ingredients until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Assembling and Baking:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a lightly floured surface to your desired flatbread shape. You can make one large flatbread or divide the dough into smaller portions for individual servings.
  3. Transfer the rolled-out dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a baking stone.
  4. Brush the top of the dough with olive oil.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the dough.
  6. Arrange the sliced jalapeño peppers over the cheese.
  7. Season with a sprinkle of salt and pepper.
  8. Place the flatbread in the preheated oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove the flatbread from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing.
  10. Garnish with chopped fresh cilantro, if desired, before serving.

This jalapeño cheddar flatbread is best enjoyed warm. You can serve it as an appetizer, cut it into slices as a side dish, or even use it as a base for making unique sandwiches. The combination of spicy jalapeños and savory cheddar cheese makes for a delicious flavor contrast.
