flatbread recipe

Posted on August 20, 2023 by admin

Sure, here’s a simple recipe for making homemade flatbread:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (or any other cooking oil)
  • 3/4 cup warm water

Instructions:

  1. Mix the Dry Ingredients:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  2. Add the Wet Ingredients:
    • Make a well in the center of the flour mixture.
    • Pour in the warm water and olive oil.
  3. Knead the Dough:
    • Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon or your hands until it comes together into a rough ball of dough.
    • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
  4. Knead and Rest:
    • Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. You may need to add a bit more flour if it’s too sticky, or a bit more water if it’s too dry.
    • Place the dough back in the bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes. This resting period allows the dough to relax and become easier to work with.
  5. Divide the Dough:
    • After resting, divide the dough into small, golf ball-sized portions. You can make them bigger or smaller depending on how large you want your flatbreads to be.
  6. Roll Out the Flatbreads:
    • Take one dough ball at a time and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a thin circle. You can use a rolling pin or your hands. Aim for a thickness of about 1/8 to 1/4 inch.
  7. Cook the Flatbreads:
    • Heat a non-stick skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. You can also use a griddle.
    • Place one of the rolled-out flatbreads into the hot skillet. Cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side or until you see bubbles forming and the bread starts to puff up and get lightly browned. You can lightly press it with a spatula to help it puff.
    • Repeat this process with the remaining dough balls.
  8. Serve:
    • Remove the cooked flatbreads from the skillet and place them on a plate. You can brush them with a little olive oil or melted butter for extra flavor if you like.
    • Serve your flatbreads warm with your favorite toppings, such as hummus, tzatziki, grilled vegetables, or as a side with curry.

Enjoy your homemade flatbreads! They’re versatile and can be used for sandwiches, wraps, or as a side for various dishes.
