Here’s a recipe for Crispy Fried Chicken Steak with Creamy Sauce. This dish combines the crunch of fried chicken with a rich, creamy sauce for a delicious meal.

Ingredients

For the Chicken Steak:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or regular milk with 1 tbsp vinegar)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Oil for frying

For the Creamy Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preparing the Chicken Steak:

  1. Prepare the Chicken:
    • Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness using a meat mallet or rolling pin. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Set Up Breading Station:
    • In one shallow bowl, place the flour.
    • In a second shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk.
    • In a third shallow bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, panko breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and dried oregano.
  3. Bread the Chicken:
    • Dredge each chicken breast in the flour, shaking off any excess.
    • Dip it into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated.
    • Finally, coat it with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  4. Fry the Chicken:
    • Heat about 1/2 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Fry the chicken breasts in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.

Making the Creamy Sauce:

  1. Prepare the Roux:
    • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and cook, whisking constantly, for about 1 minute until lightly golden.
  2. Make the Sauce:
    • Slowly whisk in the milk and chicken broth until smooth. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
    • Stir in the heavy cream, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. If using, add the Parmesan cheese and stir until melted and smooth.

Serve:

  1. Plate the Chicken:
    • Place the fried chicken steaks on a serving platter.
  2. Add the Sauce:
    • Pour the creamy sauce over the chicken or serve it on the side.
  3. Garnish:
    • Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Tips

  • For extra flavor, marinate the chicken breasts in buttermilk for a few hours before breading and frying.
  • You can keep the fried chicken warm in an oven preheated to 200°F (95°C) while you prepare the sauce.
