- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Tacos:
- Corn or flour tortillas
- Fresh cilantro, chopped
- Diced onions
- Sliced avocado
- Lime wedges
- Your favorite salsa or hot sauce
- Crumbled queso fresco (optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Brisket:
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
- Heat the olive oil in a large, oven-safe pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
- Season the brisket generously with salt and pepper.
- Sear the brisket in the pot for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until it develops a nice brown crust. Remove the brisket and set aside.
2. Cook the Aromatics:
- In the same pot, add the sliced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
3. Braise the Brisket:
- Add the beef broth, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika to the pot. Stir well to combine.
- Return the brisket to the pot, ensuring it’s covered with the sauce.
- Cover the pot with a lid and transfer it to the preheated oven.
- Braise the brisket in the oven for 3-4 hours, or until it is fork-tender.
4. Shred the Brisket:
- Remove the brisket from the pot and let it rest for a few minutes.
- Using two forks, shred the brisket into bite-sized pieces.
- Return the shredded brisket to the pot and mix it with the remaining sauce.
5. Assemble the Tacos:
- Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet over medium heat, or wrap them in foil and heat them in the oven.
- Fill each tortilla with a generous portion of the shredded brisket.
- Top with fresh cilantro, diced onions, sliced avocado, and crumbled queso fresco (if using).
- Serve with lime wedges and your favorite salsa or hot sauce on the side.
Enjoy your delicious brisket tacos!
