Here’s a simple yet delicious recipe for Pepper Steak:
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) beef steak (sirloin or ribeye), thinly sliced
- 2 bell peppers (1 red, 1 green), thinly sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/4 cup beef broth or water
- Optional: sliced green onions for garnish
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, cornstarch, and black pepper. Set aside.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add thinly sliced beef to the skillet in a single layer. Let it sear for 1-2 minutes without stirring to get a nice brown crust, then stir-fry for an additional 1-2 minutes until beef is cooked through. Remove beef from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add sliced onions and bell peppers. Stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until they start to soften but still have a slight crunch.
- Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Pour in the sauce mixture and beef broth (or water). Stir well to combine everything and let it simmer for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and vegetables.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. If you like it spicier, you can add a pinch of red pepper flakes or more black pepper.
- Garnish with sliced green onions if desired, and serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
Enjoy your homemade pepper steak!
