The School Pizza Recipe

Creating a school-style pizza involves making a simple and cost-effective pizza that can feed a large number of people. Here’s a basic recipe that you might find reminiscent of the pizzas served in school cafeterias:

Ingredients:

Pizza Dough:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Pizza Sauce:

  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Toppings:

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Additional toppings as desired (pepperoni, sliced bell peppers, olives, etc.)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Dough:

  • In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  • Mix until the dough comes together, then knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours or until it doubles in size.

2. Prepare the Sauce:

  • In a saucepan, combine tomato sauce, oregano, basil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer over low heat for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

3. Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).

4. Roll Out the Dough:

  • Punch down the risen dough and divide it in half for two pizzas. Roll out each portion on a floured surface to your desired thickness.

5. Assemble the Pizza:

  • Place the rolled-out dough on a greased pizza pan or baking sheet.
  • Spread a generous amount of the prepared sauce over the dough.
  • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce.
  • Add your chosen toppings.

6. Bake:

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

7. Serve:

  • Allow the pizza to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve and enjoy your school-style pizza!
