Bacon and cheese turnovers

Bacon and cheese turnovers are delicious savory pastries that combine the smoky flavor of bacon with the creamy goodness of cheese, all wrapped up in a flaky pastry shell. Here’s a simple recipe for making bacon and cheese turnovers:

Ingredients:

  • 1 package (17.3 ounces) puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 8 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions (optional)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the puff pastry package.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the crumbled bacon, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped green onions (if using), mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Combine well to create the filling.
  3. Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. If needed, use a rolling pin to smooth out any seams.
  4. Cut each puff pastry sheet into squares or rectangles, depending on your preference and the size you want for your turnovers.
  5. Place a spoonful of the bacon and cheese filling in the center of each pastry square.
  6. Fold the pastry over the filling to create a triangle or rectangle shape. Press the edges together to seal the turnovers. You can use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative touch.
  7. Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the turnovers. This will give them a golden-brown finish when baked.
  8. Place the turnovers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven according to the puff pastry package instructions or until the turnovers are golden brown and puffed up.
  10. Allow the bacon and cheese turnovers to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm as a tasty appetizer or snack.
