Classic Beef Stew Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds beef stew meat, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup red wine (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 4 medium carrots, sliced
  • 3 large potatoes, cubed
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, toss the beef cubes with flour, salt, and pepper until the meat is evenly coated.
  2. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Brown the beef cubes on all sides. Remove the beef and set it aside.
  3. In the same pot, sauté the onions and garlic until they are soft and translucent.
  4. Return the beef to the pot and add the beef broth, red wine (if using), Worcestershire sauce, bay leaf, and paprika. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  5. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for about 1 1/2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  6. Add the carrots, potatoes, and celery to the pot. Continue to cook for an additional 30 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.
  7. Season the stew with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Discard the bay leaf before serving.
  9. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired.

Enjoy your delicious classic beef stew!
