Malteser Poodle Dog Cake

Posted on December 30, 2024

Here’s a fun and easy recipe for a Malteser Poodle Dog Cake that combines a delicious cake with a cute dog-shaped design. It’s great for birthdays, special occasions, or just a fun treat! The key is to shape the cake into a dog and decorate it with a poodle-inspired theme.

Ingredients:

For the cake:

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 1 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of boiling water

For the Malteser filling and topping:

  • 2 cups of Maltesers (chocolate malt balls)
  • 1/2 cup of whipped cream (optional for extra filling)
  • 2 cups of heavy cream (for frosting)
  • 1/4 cup of powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (for frosting)

For the decoration:

  • White fondant (for the poodle’s fur)
  • Black fondant (for the eyes, nose, and mouth)
  • Pink fondant (optional for decoration, such as a bow on the head)
  • A few extra Maltesers for additional decoration (for paws, tail, etc.)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the cake:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a large round cake pan (or two 9-inch pans) for the cake.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.
  • Gradually add the boiling water to the mixture, stirring until the batter is smooth (the batter will be quite thin).
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan(s) and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool completely on a wire rack.

2. Prepare the frosting:

  • In a chilled mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  • Once the cake has cooled, frost the entire cake with the whipped cream frosting.

3. Create the poodle shape:

  • Cut the cooled cake into a basic round or oval shape that will form the head of the poodle. You can trim the edges to form the dog’s snout or ears if you like.
  • Use extra cake scraps or smaller portions of cake to create the ears, nose, and paws of the poodle (shape them into little rounded forms).
  • Attach these to the main cake using frosting.

4. Decorate with Maltesers:

  • Crush or break a few Maltesers into small pieces. You can mix these into the frosting or use them for additional texture and decoration on the dog’s fur.
  • Use whole Maltesers for the eyes, mouth, and nose of the poodle, or crush a few and make a small mound for the nose.

5. Fondant details:

  • Roll out the white fondant to cover the cake’s body, creating a smooth fur texture. You can use a fondant tool to make fur-like impressions.
  • Shape small balls of black fondant for the dog’s eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • You can also shape little pink fondant pieces to make a cute bow or other details on the dog’s ears.

6. Assemble the cake:

  • Once everything is decorated, arrange the cake so the ears, paws, and other parts are attached.
  • Add a few extra Maltesers for texture or to look like the dog’s tail or additional body parts.

7. Final touches:

  • Once all the decorations are in place, make sure the dog’s face looks symmetrical and the fur has a cute, fluffy appearance.
  • Chill the cake for about 30 minutes to let the frosting set.

8. Serve:

  • Slice up your adorable Malteser poodle dog cake and enjoy!

This cake is a fun, creative way to impress your guests, and the combination of Maltesers adds a sweet, crunchy surprise!
