BUTTER COOKIES

Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for butter cookies:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (optional, depending on your butter’s salt content)

Optional:

  • 1 egg yolk (for a richer flavor)
  • Decorative sugar or sprinkles for topping

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat for easy cleanup.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar:
    In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together using a hand mixer or stand mixer. Beat on medium speed for 2-3 minutes until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Add Vanilla and Egg Yolk (if using):
    If you’re using an egg yolk, add it now, along with the vanilla extract. Continue to beat until fully combined.
  4. Add Flour and Salt:
    Gradually add the flour (and salt if using) to the butter mixture. Stir until the dough starts to come together. It will be soft but not sticky.
  5. Shape the Cookies:
    Roll the dough into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter), or you can use a cookie press if you have one for fun shapes. Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. If you’d like, flatten each ball slightly with the back of a fork or your fingers. For extra sweetness, you can sprinkle the tops with a little decorative sugar.
  6. Bake the Cookies:
    Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges of the cookies are golden brown. Keep a close eye on them toward the end, as they can brown quickly.
  7. Cool and Enjoy:
    Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

These buttery, crisp cookies are perfect with tea, coffee, or just as a sweet treat on their own. Enjoy!
