Ultimate Patty Melt with Secret Sauce

Here’s a delicious recipe for an ultimate patty melt with a secret sauce:

Ingredients:

For the Secret Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Patty Melt:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 slices of rye bread
  • Butter, softened
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. Start by making the secret sauce. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well and set aside.
  2. Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties. Season both sides of the patties with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed and add the sliced onions. Cook the onions, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.
  5. Butter one side of each slice of rye bread. Place 4 slices of bread, buttered side down, on a clean surface. Spread a generous amount of the secret sauce on each slice of bread.
  6. Place a cooked beef patty on each slice of bread, followed by a portion of caramelized onions and 2 slices of Swiss cheese. Top each with another slice of bread, buttered side facing up.
  7. Heat a clean skillet over medium heat. Carefully transfer the assembled sandwiches to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  8. Once cooked, remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them cool for a minute or two before serving.
  9. Slice the sandwiches diagonally and serve hot with your favorite sides.
