Top Secret Spaghetti Sauce

Ah, the secret spaghetti sauce recipe! Here’s a classic recipe that’s sure to impress:

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef (or a mixture of beef and pork)
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
  • Fresh basil leaves, chopped (for garnish)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)
  • Cooked spaghetti or pasta of your choice

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add minced garlic to the skillet and cook for another minute, stirring frequently.
  3. Increase heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.
  4. Once the meat is browned, add crushed tomatoes and tomato paste to the skillet, stirring well to combine.
  5. Stir in dried oregano, basil, thyme, rosemary, and red pepper flakes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. If desired, add a tablespoon of sugar to balance the acidity of the tomatoes. Stir well to combine.
  7. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer, uncovered, for about 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Stir occasionally.
  8. While the sauce is simmering, cook spaghetti or your preferred pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  9. Once the sauce has simmered and thickened to your desired consistency, taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  10. Serve the spaghetti topped with the sauce. Garnish with fresh chopped basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese.
