Tiramisu is a classic Italian dessert that’s both elegant and delicious. Here’s a basic recipe for you to try:
Ingredients:
- 6 egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese, softened
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 2 cups brewed espresso or strong coffee, cooled
- 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
- 1 package (about 7 ounces) ladyfingers (savoiardi biscuits)
- Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
- Dark chocolate shavings, for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Coffee Mixture:
- Brew the espresso or strong coffee and let it cool to room temperature.
- If using, mix the coffee liqueur with the cooled coffee. Set aside.
- Make the Mascarpone Mixture:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and granulated sugar until pale and creamy.
- Add the softened mascarpone cheese to the egg mixture and beat until smooth and well combined.
- Whip the Cream:
- In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
- Combine the Mixtures:
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated. Be careful not to deflate the whipped cream.
- Assemble the Tiramisu:
- Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture (do not soak them, just a quick dip) and line the bottom of a serving dish or individual glasses with them.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers, smoothing it out into an even layer.
- Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone mixture.
- Chill:
- Cover the tiramisu with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.
- Serve:
- Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with unsweetened cocoa powder.
- Optionally, garnish with dark chocolate shavings for added elegance.
- Serve chilled and enjoy!
Tiramisu is best enjoyed within a day or two of making it, as the ladyfingers can become too soft if left for too long. Enjoy your homemade tiramisu!
