Here’s a vibrant and flavorful Spicy Lemon Fish Soup recipe that balances heat, citrus, and a touch of herbs — perfect for something warming yet light!


🐟 Spicy Lemon Fish Soup Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) white fish fillets (cod, tilapia, or haddock), cut into chunks

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1-inch piece of ginger, grated

  • 1-2 red chilies, sliced (adjust to your heat preference)

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin

  • 4 cups fish stock or vegetable broth

  • Juice and zest of 2 lemons

  • 1 tbsp fish sauce (optional, for depth)

  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved (optional)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Fresh parsley or cilantro, chopped for garnish


Instructions:

  1. Sauté the aromatics:
    In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, ginger, and chilies. Sauté until fragrant and onion is soft (about 5 minutes).

  2. Add spices:
    Stir in paprika and cumin, letting them toast for 1 minute to bloom the flavor.

  3. Pour in stock:
    Add fish stock and bring to a simmer. Stir in the fish sauce (if using), lemon juice, and zest. Let it simmer gently for 5–10 minutes.

  4. Add fish & tomatoes:
    Gently add fish chunks and cherry tomatoes. Simmer for 5–7 minutes or until the fish is cooked through and flaky.

  5. Season and serve:
    Taste and season with salt and pepper. Adjust lemon juice or chili to your liking.

  6. Garnish & enjoy:
    Ladle into bowls, top with chopped herbs, and maybe an extra squeeze of lemon.

  • Make it creamy: Stir in a splash of coconut milk at the end for a Thai-inspired twist.

  • Add greens: Wilt in baby spinach or kale just before serving.

  • Serve with: Crusty bread, rice, or even noodles for a heartier meal.
