Here’s a Southern Style Cheeseburger Pie recipe—comfort food with a classic southern twist! Think hearty ground beef, tangy cheddar, a biscuit-like crust, and savory seasonings. It’s simple, satisfying, and perfect for weeknight dinners or potlucks.

📝 Ingredients:

For the Filling:

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 works best)

  • 1 small onion, chopped

  • 1/2 green bell pepper, chopped (optional, but adds Southern flavor)

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

For the Crust/Topping:

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup cornmeal

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1/4 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 2 eggs

  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

  • 2 tbsp melted butter


🔪 Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven:

  • Set to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish or deep-dish baking dish.

2. Cook the Beef Mixture:

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned.

  • Drain excess grease.

  • Add onions and green pepper. Cook 3–5 minutes until softened.

  • Stir in garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Let it simmer 1–2 minutes.

  • Remove from heat. Stir in shredded cheese until melted and well combined.

3. Make the Crust Batter:

  • In a bowl, mix flour, cornmeal, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, buttermilk, and melted butter.

  • Combine wet and dry ingredients until smooth.

4. Assemble the Pie:

  • Pour beef mixture into prepared pie dish and spread evenly.

  • Pour batter over the top, spreading gently to cover the meat layer.

5. Bake:

  • Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until topping is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the topping comes out clean.

6. Cool & Serve:

  • Let sit for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
