Southern Chocolate Cobbler

Southern Chocolate Cobbler is a classic and delicious dessert that features a rich chocolate sauce underneath a layer of cake-like topping. It’s a comforting and indulgent treat that’s easy to make. Here’s a simple recipe for you to try:

Ingredients:

For the chocolate layer:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the topping:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cocoa powder for the chocolate layer.
  3. Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined. The batter will be thick.
  4. Spread the batter evenly into an ungreased 9×9-inch baking dish.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder for the topping. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter in the baking dish.
  6. Pour the boiling water over the entire mixture. Do not stir.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 35-40 minutes or until the top is set and the edges are bubbly.
  8. Allow the cobbler to cool for a few minutes before serving. The chocolate layer will be at the bottom, and the topping will be on the top.
  9. Serve warm, and you can optionally top it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
