Soft Butter Cookies

Here’s a classic Soft Butter Cookies recipe — simple, melt-in-your-mouth, and perfect for tea time or holiday gifting!


Soft Butter Cookies Recipe

Yield: ~24 cookies
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 10–12 minutes


Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, softened

  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt


Optional Add-ins/Toppings:

  • Powdered sugar for dusting

  • Sprinkles

  • Chocolate chips or a drizzle of melted chocolate


Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Cream the butter and sugar:
    In a large bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).

  3. Add egg and vanilla:
    Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. Mix dry ingredients:
    In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. Shape the cookies:
    Scoop tablespoon-sized amounts of dough, roll into balls, and place on the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Slightly flatten the tops with your fingers or a fork.

  6. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are just barely golden. The centers will look soft — that’s perfect.

  7. Cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  8. Dust or decorate as desired once cooled.
