SLOPPY JOE CASSEROLE

Posted on February 26, 2024September 9, 2024 by admin

Sloppy Joe Casserole is a delightful twist on the classic Sloppy Joe sandwich, turning it into a hearty, comforting casserole dish. Here’s a basic recipe to get you started:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef (you can also use ground turkey or chicken)
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Optional toppings: diced tomatoes, sliced green onions, chopped parsley

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until it’s browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet with the cooked beef. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer the mixture for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  5. Spread the cooked rice evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  6. Pour the sloppy joe mixture over the rice layer, spreading it out evenly.
  7. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the casserole.
  8. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown.
  10. Once done, let the casserole cool slightly before serving. Optionally, garnish with diced tomatoes, sliced green onions, or chopped parsley before serving.

Enjoy your delicious Sloppy Joe Casserole!
