Ingredients:

  • Cubed steaks (usually beef)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • All-purpose flour
  • Cooking oil (vegetable oil or canola oil)

Instructions:

  1. Season the Cubed Steaks:
    • Sprinkle salt and pepper on both sides of the cubed steaks. You can adjust the amount according to your taste preferences.
  2. Coat with Flour:
    • Coat each steak with a thin layer of all-purpose flour. This helps create a nice crust when you cook them.
  3. Preheat the Pan:
    • Heat a skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. Add enough cooking oil to cover the bottom of the pan.
  4. Cook the Cubed Steaks:
    • Once the oil is hot, carefully place the cubed steaks in the pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are browned and cooked through.
  5. Check for Doneness:
    • To ensure the steaks are cooked through, you can use a meat thermometer. The internal temperature should reach 145°F (63°C) for medium doneness.
  6. Serve:
    • Once the cubed steaks are cooked to your liking, remove them from the pan and let them rest for a few minutes. This helps the juices redistribute.
  7. Optional Gravy:
    • If you like, you can make a simple gravy by using the pan drippings. In the same pan, add a bit more flour and cook for a minute, then gradually add beef broth or water while stirring to avoid lumps. Season with salt and pepper and cook until the gravy thickens.
  8. Serve with Sides:
    • Cubed steaks pair well with mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables. You can also pour the gravy over the steaks and sides for added flavor.
