Shrimp cocktail

Here’s a classic shrimp cocktail recipe for you:

Ingredients:

For the shrimp:

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Ice, for chilling

For the cocktail sauce:

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish (adjust to taste for desired spiciness)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For garnish (optional):

  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Lemon wedges

Instructions:

1. Prepare the shrimp:

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Squeeze lemon halves into the boiling water and add them to the pot.
  • Season the boiling water generously with salt. Add the shrimp and cook until they turn pink and opaque, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Remove the shrimp from the boiling water and immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Once cooled, drain and refrigerate until ready to serve.

2. Make the cocktail sauce:

  • In a small bowl, mix together the ketchup, prepared horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce (if using).
  • Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste. Adjust the amount of horseradish and hot sauce according to your preference for spiciness.

3. Serve:

  • Arrange the chilled shrimp on a platter or individual serving dishes.
  • Place a small bowl of the cocktail sauce in the center of the platter or distribute it among the individual dishes.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley and lemon wedges, if desired.
  • Serve immediately as an appetizer or part of a seafood spread.
