Salisbury Steak with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Mushroom & Onion Gravy

Salisbury Steak

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/3 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into four oval patties.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook until browned on both sides and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  4. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, peeled
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Place the potatoes and garlic in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  2. Drain the potatoes and garlic, then return to the pot.
  3. Add milk, butter, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning as needed.

Mushroom & Onion Gravy

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. In the same skillet used for the Salisbury steaks, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the onions and mushrooms and cook until they are soft and slightly browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
  4. Gradually add the beef broth, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
  5. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to taste. Let simmer for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Assembly

  1. Return the Salisbury steak patties to the skillet with the gravy and let them heat through, about 5 minutes.
  2. Serve the Salisbury steaks with a generous helping of mushroom & onion gravy over the top.
  3. Plate with a side of garlic mashed potatoes.
