Philly cheesesteak meatloaf is a delicious twist on the classic comfort food, combining the flavors of a Philly cheesesteak sandwich with the heartiness of meatloaf. Here’s a basic recipe to get you started:
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup shredded provolone cheese
- 1 cup diced mushrooms (optional)
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil for sautéing
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, chopped bell pepper, minced garlic, shredded provolone cheese, and diced mushrooms (if using). Mix everything together until well combined.
- In a small bowl, mix together the ketchup and Worcestershire sauce.
- Heat a little olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the onion and bell pepper until they are softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Add the sautéed vegetables to the ground beef mixture, along with half of the ketchup mixture. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix until everything is evenly distributed.
- Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a baking dish or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the remaining ketchup mixture over the top of the meatloaf.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until the meatloaf is cooked through and the top is nicely browned.
- Once cooked, remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
- Serve slices of the Philly cheesesteak meatloaf with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables.
Enjoy your Philly cheesesteak meatloaf!
