oatmeal chocolate chip cookies

Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are a delicious treat that combines the chewy texture of oats with the sweetness of chocolate chips. Here’s a simple recipe for making them:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  2. Cream the butter and sugars: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter with both sugars until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla: Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then, mix in the vanilla extract.
  4. Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Add the dry ingredients: Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. Stir in the oats and chocolate chips: Gently fold in the oats and chocolate chips (and nuts, if using).
  7. Scoop the dough: Use a spoon or cookie scoop to drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake: Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still soft. For chewier cookies, bake on the shorter end of the time range.
  9. Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
