Natural Banana Candy

Posted on January 20, 2025 by admin

Making homemade natural banana candy is a great way to enjoy the natural sweetness of bananas in a fun and delicious treat! Here’s a simple recipe to make banana candies:

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (for sweetness)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional, to prevent browning)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional for added flavor)
  • A pinch of sea salt (optional)
  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut (optional, for texture)
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips or cocoa powder (optional, for coating)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Bananas: Peel the bananas and slice them into thin, round slices, about 1/4-inch thick. If you want to make bite-sized pieces, you can cut them into smaller chunks.
  2. Coat with Sweetener: In a small bowl, combine honey or maple syrup with lemon juice and vanilla extract (if using). You can also add a pinch of sea salt for extra flavor. Gently toss the banana slices in this mixture to coat them evenly.
  3. Optional Coconut Coating: If you’d like to add texture and flavor, sprinkle shredded coconut on a plate or shallow dish. Gently press each banana slice into the coconut to coat.
  4. Optional Chocolate Coating: Melt dark chocolate chips in a microwave or double boiler, then dip the banana slices into the melted chocolate for a sweet, chocolaty finish.
  5. Dry the Banana Slices: Place the coated banana slices on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet or tray, making sure they aren’t touching each other.
  6. Freeze or Dry:
    • Freezing Method: Place the banana slices in the freezer for about 1-2 hours until firm. This results in a frozen, chewy candy.
    • Dehydrator/Slow Drying: For a chewy yet more concentrated flavor, you can use a dehydrator to dry the banana slices at 135°F (57°C) for 6-12 hours. Alternatively, use your oven at its lowest temperature setting with the door slightly ajar to dry the slices slowly.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Once frozen or dried, enjoy your natural banana candy! Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer or a cool, dry place.

Tips:

  • You can experiment with other coatings, like ground nuts, cinnamon, or even a sprinkle of cocoa powder, depending on your preferences.
  • For a healthier version, simply omit any added sweeteners and use just the natural sweetness of the bananas.

This recipe is simple, customizable, and uses all-natural ingredients for a healthier candy option! Enjoy!
