Here’s a moist vanilla cake recipe that’s perfect for birthdays, celebrations, or anytime you want a classic, fluffy dessert:


🎂 Moist Vanilla Cake Recipe

🧁 Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 2 ½ cups (312g) all-purpose flour

  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¾ cup (170g) unsalted butter, room temperature

  • 1 ¾ cups (350g) granulated sugar

  • 4 large eggs, room temperature

  • 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract

  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk, room temperature

  • ½ cup (120ml) sour cream or plain yogurt (for extra moisture)

Optional Add-In:

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for added softness)

For the Vanilla Buttercream Frosting:

  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, room temperature

  • 4 cups (480g) powdered sugar

  • 2–3 tbsp heavy cream or milk

  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract

  • Pinch of salt


🥣 Instructions:

1. Prepare the Pans:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  • Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

3. Cream Butter & Sugar:

  • In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes using a hand or stand mixer).

4. Add Eggs & Vanilla:

  • Beat in eggs one at a time, scraping down the sides as needed.

  • Add vanilla extract and mix until combined.

5. Add Wet & Dry Ingredients Alternately:

  • On low speed, add the dry ingredients in three parts, alternating with the milk and sour cream, beginning and ending with dry.

  • Mix until just combined — don’t overmix.

  • Optional: Fold in 1 tbsp of vegetable oil for extra softness.

6. Bake:

  • Divide the batter evenly into the pans.

  • Bake for 28–33 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center.

  • Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.


🍰 Frosting:

1. Beat butter until creamy.

2. Gradually add powdered sugar, one cup at a time.

3. Add vanilla, salt, and 2 tbsp of cream. Beat until fluffy (2–3 mins). Add more cream if needed for desired consistency.


📝 Tips:

  • Room temperature ingredients = fluffier cake.

  • You can make this into cupcakes or a sheet cake.

  • Chill layers before frosting for cleaner assembly.
