kielbasa sausage cheesy potato casserole

Posted on March 26, 2024

Kielbasa sausage cheesy potato casserole is a delicious and hearty dish that combines smoked sausage, potatoes, cheese, and often other flavorful ingredients. Here’s a simple recipe to make it:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound kielbasa sausage, sliced into rounds
  • 4-5 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or any cheese of your choice)
  • 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or milk
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced kielbasa sausage and cook until browned on both sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and minced garlic. Cook until the onions are soft and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and garlic, stirring continuously for about 1 minute to make a roux.
  5. Gradually pour in the chicken or vegetable broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Allow the mixture to simmer and thicken for a few minutes.
  6. Stir in the heavy cream or milk, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the sauce simmer for another 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  7. Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the greased baking dish. Layer half of the browned sausage over the potatoes, followed by half of the shredded cheese. Pour half of the sauce over the layers.
  8. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, sausage, cheese, and sauce.
  9. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  11. Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

Serve the kielbasa sausage cheesy potato casserole hot, and enjoy this comforting and flavorful dish!
