Here’s a simple recipe to make KFC-style chicken popcorn at home:
Ingredients:
- 500g boneless chicken breast, cut into small chunks
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
- Marinate the chicken: Place the chicken chunks in a bowl and pour the buttermilk over them. Mix until all the chicken pieces are well coated. Cover the bowl and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- Prepare the coating: In another bowl, mix together the flour, salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper until well combined.
- Coat the chicken: Take each piece of marinated chicken from the buttermilk and dredge it in the flour mixture until it’s evenly coated. Shake off any excess flour and place the coated chicken pieces on a plate or tray.
- Heat the oil: Heat oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the chicken: Carefully drop the coated chicken pieces into the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the fryer. Fry for about 3-4 minutes, or until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through. Use a slotted spoon to remove the chicken from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
- Serve: Once all the chicken pieces are fried, serve them hot with your favorite dipping sauces, such as ketchup, barbecue sauce, or ranch dressing.
