Kentucky Butter Cake

Posted on January 17, 2024

Kentucky Butter Cake is a rich and moist dessert that’s known for its buttery flavor and dense texture. It’s a classic Southern dessert that has become popular across the United States. Here’s a basic recipe for making Kentucky Butter Cake:

Ingredients:

For the cake:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

For the butter sauce:

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease and flour a bundt cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat together the softened butter, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. While the cake is baking, prepare the butter sauce. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the sugar and water, and bring the mixture to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  8. Once the cake is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately poke holes all over the surface with a skewer or fork.
  9. Pour the butter sauce over the warm cake, allowing it to soak in.
  10. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 30 minutes, then invert it onto a serving platter to cool completely.
  11. Slice and serve the Kentucky Butter Cake, optionally dusting with powdered sugar or serving with a dollop of whipped cream.

Enjoy this delicious, buttery treat!
