HOT DOG BUNS

Sure, here’s a simple recipe for homemade hot dog buns:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm water (110°F to 115°F)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional, for topping)

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir until the yeast is dissolved. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine the flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and melted butter.
  3. Mix on low speed until a dough forms. If using a stand mixer, knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes. If kneading by hand, turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 to 1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions.
  6. Shape each portion into a smooth ball, then roll it into a cylinder about 6 inches long. Place the shaped buns onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving some space between each one.
  7. Cover the shaped buns with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.
  8. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Brush the risen buns with beaten egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds or poppy seeds if desired.
  10. Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  11. Remove the buns from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cooled, slice each bun along the top, place your cooked hot dog or sausage inside, add your favorite toppings, and enjoy your homemade hot dog!
