🍞 Homemade Dinner Rolls
Ingredients:
-
1 cup warm milk (110°F / 45°C)
-
2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
-
¼ cup granulated sugar
-
¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
-
1 tsp salt
-
1 large egg
-
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour (more if needed)
-
2 tbsp butter, melted (for brushing)
Instructions:
-
Activate the yeast:
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
-
-
Make the dough:
-
Add remaining sugar, melted butter, salt, egg, and 3 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Mix until combined.
-
Gradually add the remaining flour, ¼ cup at a time, until dough pulls away from the sides but is still slightly sticky.
-
-
Knead:
-
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8–10 minutes (or 5 minutes using a stand mixer with a dough hook) until smooth and elastic.
-
-
First rise:
-
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
-
-
Shape the rolls:
-
Punch down dough, divide into 12–15 equal pieces, and shape into balls. Place in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish or on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
-
-
Second rise:
-
Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes, until puffy.
-
-
Bake:
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 15–18 minutes or until golden brown on top.
-
-
Finish:
-
Brush hot rolls with melted butter right out of the oven for a glossy, tender finish.
