Homemade Biscuit Recipe

Here’s a simple and delicious homemade biscuit recipe that yields soft, buttery, and flaky biscuits — perfect for breakfast or alongside dinner.


🧈 Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 6 tablespoons (85g) cold unsalted butter, cubed

  • 3/4 cup (180ml) cold buttermilk

  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for a touch of sweetness)

  • Extra melted butter for brushing (optional)


Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Mix dry ingredients:
    In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. Cut in the butter:
    Add cold butter cubes to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work it in until it resembles coarse crumbs (like small peas).

  4. Add buttermilk:
    Pour in the cold buttermilk and honey (if using). Stir just until combined — don’t overmix.

  5. Knead lightly:
    Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Gently pat it into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Fold the dough in thirds like a letter, then pat it out again. Repeat this folding 2 more times (this creates flaky layers).

  6. Cut biscuits:
    Pat the dough out to about 3/4-inch thick and cut with a floured biscuit cutter or round glass. Press straight down (don’t twist). Place on the baking sheet, sides just touching for softer sides or spaced apart for crispier edges.

  7. Bake:
    Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown on top. Brush with melted butter, if desired.
