Golden Cheesy Bacon Rolls

Golden Cheesy Bacon Rolls are a delicious, savory treat perfect for breakfast, a snack, or even a side dish. Here’s a simple recipe to make these mouthwatering rolls:

Ingredients:

  • For the dough:
    • 3 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/4 cup sugar
    • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup milk (warmed)
    • 1/4 cup water (warm)
    • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
    • 1 large egg
  • For the filling:
    • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
    • 1 cup cooked and crumbled bacon (about 6-8 slices)
    • 1 tablespoon chopped chives or green onions (optional)
  • For the topping:
    • 2 tablespoons melted butter
    • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
    • A pinch of garlic powder (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Make the dough:
    • In a bowl, combine the warm milk, warm water, and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the mixture and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg, then mix until the dough begins to come together.
    • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Prepare the filling:
    • While the dough is rising, cook and crumble the bacon. If you’re using green onions or chives, chop them as well.
  3. Assemble the rolls:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
    • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 12×18 inches).
    • Brush the dough with a little melted butter, then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, and optional chives or green onions evenly over the dough.
    • Starting at one edge, roll the dough tightly into a log, then slice it into 12 equal pieces.
    • Arrange the rolls in the prepared baking dish.
  4. Bake the rolls:
    • Brush the tops of the rolls with the remaining melted butter.
    • Optional: Sprinkle the rolls with grated Parmesan and a pinch of garlic powder for extra flavor.
    • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden and the cheese is bubbly.
  5. Serve:
    • Let the rolls cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm!

These Golden Cheesy Bacon Rolls are best served fresh, but they can be stored in an airtight container for a day or two. You can also reheat them in the oven for a few minutes to enjoy their gooey cheese and crispy bacon again!
