gluten free fried mozzarella sticks

Here’s a recipe for Gluten-Free Fried Mozzarella Sticks that’s crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside!

Ingredients:

  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks (or block mozzarella cut into sticks)
  • 1/2 cup gluten-free all-purpose flour (like rice flour or a gluten-free blend)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup gluten-free breadcrumbs (make sure to use one that’s gluten-free, or you can make your own from gluten-free bread)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Cheese Sticks:
    • Freeze the mozzarella sticks for at least 1 hour (this helps them keep their shape when frying).
  2. Set up a Dipping Station:
    • In one shallow bowl, place the gluten-free flour.
    • In a second shallow bowl, beat the eggs.
    • In a third shallow bowl, combine the gluten-free breadcrumbs, Parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat the Mozzarella Sticks:
    • Take a frozen mozzarella stick and coat it in the gluten-free flour, making sure it’s fully covered.
    • Dip the floured mozzarella stick into the beaten eggs, letting any excess drip off.
    • Roll the stick in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to ensure the breadcrumbs stick well.
    • For an extra crispy coating, you can repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps for a double coating.
  4. Fry the Mozzarella Sticks:
    • Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
    • Carefully lower the coated mozzarella sticks into the hot oil, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
    • Fry for about 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
    • Use tongs to remove the mozzarella sticks and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  5. Serve:
    • Serve hot with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce!
