Fried okrie

Posted on March 22, 2025 by admin

It seems like you’re referring to fried okra! Fried okra is a popular Southern dish, typically served as a side. It’s made by slicing okra, dipping it in cornmeal or flour, and then frying it until crispy. Here’s a simple recipe if you’d like to try it:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb fresh okra (sliced into rounds)
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or regular milk if you don’t have buttermilk)
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the okra: Wash and slice the okra into rounds. Pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
  2. Coat the okra: In a bowl, pour the buttermilk. In another bowl, mix the cornmeal, flour, salt, pepper, and paprika.
  3. Dip and coat: Dip each piece of okra into the buttermilk, allowing any excess to drip off, then coat it in the cornmeal mixture. Make sure each piece is evenly coated.
  4. Fry the okra: Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat (about 1-2 inches of oil). Once the oil is hot (you can test by dropping in a small amount of batter—if it sizzles, it’s ready), fry the okra in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
  5. Cook until golden: Fry the okra for 3-4 minutes, turning them occasionally, until they are golden and crispy.
  6. Drain: Use a slotted spoon to remove the okra from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. Serve: Enjoy your crispy fried okra as a snack, side dish, or appetizer!

You can also serve it with a dipping sauce like ranch or a spicy remoulade if you’d like.
