Fried Chicken with Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for Fried Chicken with Creamy Mashed Potatoes—a classic comfort food combo that’s crispy, creamy, and full of flavor.


🍗 Fried Chicken

Ingredients:

  • 8 pieces of chicken (drumsticks, thighs, or breasts)

  • 2 cups buttermilk

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp onion powder

  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions:

  1. Marinate: Place the chicken in a bowl and cover with buttermilk. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.

  2. Coating: In a large bowl, mix flour with salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne.

  3. Dredge: Remove chicken from buttermilk, letting excess drip off. Coat in flour mixture, pressing it on for a thick crust.

  4. Fry: Heat 2–3 inches of oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C). Fry chicken in batches for 12–15 minutes, turning halfway, until golden brown and internal temp reaches 165°F (74°C).

  5. Drain: Place fried chicken on a rack or paper towels to drain.


🥔 Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet), peeled and chopped

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 1/4 cup butter

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Optional: 2 tbsp sour cream or cream cheese for extra creaminess

Instructions:

  1. Boil: Place potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water, and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and cook until fork-tender (15–20 minutes).

  2. Mash: Drain potatoes and return to the pot. Add butter and mash until mostly smooth.

  3. Mix: Warm cream (and optional sour cream) slightly, then stir into the potatoes until creamy. Season with salt and pepper.
