Easy Texas Turtle Sheet Cake

Certainly! Here’s a simple recipe for a Texas Turtle Sheet Cake. This delicious dessert combines the flavors of chocolate, caramel, and pecans for a delightful treat.

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)

Instructions:

For the Cake:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 13×9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a saucepan, melt 1 cup of butter. Add water and cocoa powder, and bring to a boil.
  4. Pour the hot cocoa mixture over the dry ingredients and mix well.
  5. Add the beaten eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

For the Topping:

  1. In a saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of butter, milk, and brown sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
  2. Once it reaches a boil, let it simmer for 2 minutes. Stir in the chopped pecans.
  3. Pour the pecan mixture evenly over the hot cake as soon as it comes out of the oven.
  4. Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top of the hot pecan mixture. Allow them to melt for a few minutes.
  5. Using a spatula, spread the melted chocolate chips evenly over the cake.
  6. Allow the cake to cool completely before cutting into squares and serving.
