Ingredients:
For the dough:
- 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
For the filling:
- 1/2 pound sliced deli ham
- 1/2 pound sliced salami or pepperoni
- 1/2 pound sliced provolone cheese
- 1/2 cup sliced roasted red peppers
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped black olives (optional)
For brushing:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions:
1. Prepare the dough:
- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
