Easy Stromboli Recipe

Stromboli is a delicious and versatile dish that’s essentially a rolled pizza. Here’s a simple recipe to make Stromboli at home:

Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the filling:

  • 1/2 pound sliced deli ham
  • 1/2 pound sliced salami or pepperoni
  • 1/2 pound sliced provolone cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced roasted red peppers
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped black olives (optional)

For brushing:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions:

1. Prepare the dough:

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

2. Prepare the filling:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle, about 12×16 inches.
  3. Layer the ham, salami or pepperoni, provolone cheese, roasted red peppers, Parmesan cheese, basil, and olives over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.

3. Roll and seal:

  1. Starting from one of the longer edges, tightly roll the dough into a log.
  2. Pinch the seams and ends to seal in the filling.
  3. Place the Stromboli seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

4. Bake:

  1. Brush the top of the Stromboli with olive oil and sprinkle with Italian seasoning and grated Parmesan cheese.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and crispy.

5. Serve:

  1. Let the Stromboli cool for a few minutes before slicing.
  2. Slice into pieces and serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
