Deep Dish Apple Crisp

Ingredients

For the filling:

  • 6 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)

For the crisp topping:

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven: Preheat to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the apple filling:
    • In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch (if using). Toss until the apples are well coated.
    • Transfer the apple mixture to a greased deep dish baking pan (about 9×13 inches).
  3. Make the crisp topping:
    • In a separate bowl, mix the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
    • Pour in the melted butter and stir until the mixture is crumbly and well combined.
  4. Assemble and bake:
    • Evenly spread the crisp topping over the apples in the baking pan.
    • Bake for about 40-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  5. Cool and serve:
    • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. This dish is delightful on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Enjoy your warm and comforting Deep Dish Apple Crisp!
