Crispy Golden Fried Mushrooms Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450g) fresh mushrooms (button, cremini, or portobello)
- 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk (or substitute with 1 cup milk mixed with 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice, let sit for 5 minutes)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Optional: dipping sauce of your choice (ranch, marinara, aioli, etc.)
Instructions:
- Prepare the mushrooms: Clean the mushrooms with a damp cloth or paper towel to remove any dirt. Trim the stems if needed and slice larger mushrooms into bite-sized pieces. Set aside.
- In a shallow bowl or dish, combine the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to evenly distribute the spices.
- Pour the buttermilk into another shallow bowl or dish.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C). Make sure there’s enough oil to fully submerge the mushrooms.
- Dip each mushroom piece first into the buttermilk, allowing any excess to drip off, then dredge it in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring it’s evenly coated. Shake off any excess flour.
- Carefully place the coated mushrooms into the hot oil, in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Using a slotted spoon or tongs, transfer the fried mushrooms to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Repeat the frying process with the remaining mushrooms.
- Once all the mushrooms are fried, serve them hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
- Enjoy your crispy golden fried mushrooms as a delicious appetizer or snack!
Note: Be cautious when working with hot oil to avoid burns. Always supervise when frying and handle with care.
