Crispy Fried Dough Pockets Recipe

Ingredients (Dough):

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil or melted butter

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ cup warm water (adjust as needed)

  • Oil for deep frying


Instructions (Dough):

  1. Mix Dough: In a bowl, combine flour and salt. Add oil and mix with your fingers until crumbly. Slowly add warm water while mixing until a soft, non-sticky dough forms.

  2. Knead & Rest: Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.

  3. Roll & Fill: Divide dough into small balls. Roll out each into a thin circle (like a mini tortilla). Add filling (see below) in the center, fold into a half-moon or rectangle, and press edges to seal (use a fork or a bit of water to help seal).

  4. Fry: Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the dough pockets until golden and crispy on both sides. Drain on paper towels.

  • Spiced Potato & Pea – mashed potatoes, green peas, cumin, chili, turmeric

  • Cheese & Jalapeño – shredded cheese, chopped jalapeños, garlic

  • Ground Meat – seasoned beef or chicken with onions and herbs

  • Spinach & Feta – cooked spinach, crumbled feta, black pepper

Sweet:

  • Nutella & Banana – thinly sliced banana, a spoon of Nutella

  • Apple Cinnamon – diced apples sautéed with butter, sugar, and cinnamon

  • Sweetened Ricotta – ricotta cheese mixed with sugar and vanilla
