Creamy Cinnamon-Topped Milk Custard Recipe

Posted on January 5, 2025 by admin

Here’s a recipe for a Creamy Cinnamon-Topped Milk Custard that’s rich, smooth, and perfectly spiced with cinnamon!

Ingredients:

For the Custard:

  • 2 cups whole milk (or any milk of your choice)
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for extra creaminess)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

For the Cinnamon Topping:

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Custard:

  • In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it’s just beginning to steam. Do not let it boil.
  • While the milk is warming, whisk together the egg yolks, granulated sugar, cornstarch (if using), and a pinch of salt in a separate bowl until smooth and well combined.
  • Once the milk is warm, slowly pour about 1/4 cup of the warm milk into the egg mixture while whisking constantly to temper the eggs. This prevents the eggs from scrambling.
  • Gradually add the remaining warm milk to the egg mixture, whisking constantly.

2. Cook the Custard:

  • Return the entire mixture to the saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly with a wooden spoon or whisk to prevent the eggs from curdling.
  • Continue cooking for about 5–7 minutes until the custard thickens to the consistency of heavy cream.
  • Once thickened, remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

3. Chill the Custard:

  • Pour the custard into individual serving dishes or a large bowl. Allow it to cool slightly at room temperature, then transfer it to the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours or until fully set.

4. Cinnamon Topping:

  • In a small bowl, mix together the ground cinnamon and sugar (if using).
  • Once the custard has chilled and set, sprinkle the cinnamon mixture on top just before serving for a fragrant, flavorful finish.

Tips:

  • If you want an even creamier custard, you can add a tablespoon of heavy cream when you stir in the vanilla extract.
  • For a more pronounced cinnamon flavor, you can steep a cinnamon stick in the milk as it heats, removing it before combining with the egg mixture.

Enjoy this delightful and creamy dessert!
