Here’s a delightful recipe for cream-filled donuts:

Ingredients

For the Donuts:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • ½ cup whole milk, warmed to about 110°F (43°C)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

For the Cream Filling:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Glaze (optional):

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Make the Donuts:

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add the eggs, melted butter, and salt, mixing well.
  2. Add Flour: Gradually add the flour and nutmeg (if using) to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  4. Shape the Donuts: Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out to about ½ inch thick. Use a donut cutter or two round cookie cutters to cut out donuts and holes. Place them on a floured surface and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.

Fry the Donuts:

  1. Heat Oil: In a deep pan or fryer, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the donuts in batches, about 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.

Make the Cream Filling:

  1. Whip Cream: In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, continuing to whip until stiff peaks form.

Fill the Donuts:

  1. Fill: Once the donuts are cool, use a piping bag fitted with a filling tip (or a small knife) to fill each donut with whipped cream.

(Optional) Glaze the Donuts:

  1. Prepare Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Dip the tops of the filled donuts in the glaze.

Serve:

  1. Enjoy your delicious cream-filled donuts fresh! They’re best served the same day but can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
