Posted on April 15, 2025

Here’s a Cinnamon Twisted Donuts recipe that gives you that soft, fluffy interior with a crunchy cinnamon-sugar coating and beautiful twisted shape — perfect for a cozy weekend treat.

🍩 Cinnamon Twisted Donuts Recipe

✅ Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 3 ½ cups (440g) all-purpose flour

  • ¼ cup (50g) sugar

  • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¾ cup (180ml) warm milk (110°F / 43°C)

  • 2 large eggs

  • ¼ cup (55g) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For frying:

  • Vegetable oil (for deep frying)

For cinnamon sugar coating:

  • ½ cup (100g) sugar

  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

  • 2 tbsp melted butter (optional, helps cinnamon sugar stick better)

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Make the Dough:

  • In a large mixing bowl or stand mixer, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy.

  • Add sugar, eggs, butter, vanilla, and salt. Mix until combined.

  • Gradually add flour until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

2. Let It Rise:

  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.

3. Shape the Twists:

  • Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces.

  • Roll each piece into a rope (about 10–12 inches long), fold in half, and twist the strands together. Pinch the ends to seal.

  • Place on a parchment-lined tray. Cover and let rise for another 30–45 minutes.

4. Fry the Donuts:

  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 350°F (175°C).

  • Fry donuts 2–3 at a time for about 1–2 minutes per side, or until golden brown.

  • Drain on paper towels.

5. Coat in Cinnamon Sugar:

  • Mix cinnamon and sugar in a shallow bowl.

  • While donuts are still warm, lightly brush with melted butter (optional), then roll in cinnamon sugar until coated.

🧡 Tips:

  • For extra softness, use bread flour instead of all-purpose.

  • Want to bake instead? Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 10–12 minutes, then coat with cinnamon sugar.
